My Laurel Dress is in the Voting for Reader's Choice!

I had the best surprise this morning when I woke up and checked my Google Reader: the entries for Reader's Choice in the  Collette Patterns Laurel competition are up and my Blue and White Laurel dress is one of them!

I'm so excited that my dress was chosen for voting and blown away by how many amazing entries there are! People really stepped up to the challenge on this one!

If you'd like to vote and check out the 20 dresses they chose, here's the post! You have to vote by midnight this Friday, May 17th.

Wish me luck!!!

  6. Well, I sure am not suprised your creation was chosen in the top 20: it is stunning! I love how you shaped the dress for a better fit and use classic shapes for the collar and sleeves. I wasn't so sure about buying the laurel pattern because I was scared it would be too shapeless on me, but your version just prompted me to try it out. Congrats!

    1. Thanks! I'm glad I convinced you to try it out! I've figured out over the years that I need some kind of waist definition for dresses to look remotely good on me! I'm not sure if you have the Colette Sewing handbook, but the waist darts from the "Licorice" dress worked well with this pattern. I usually start with those and then if I need to take in more I put it on inside-out and then pinch them in until I like the fit (if that makes sense). Thanks again!

  8. I found your blog through the contest. I ranked you first because of the impeccable details and because you single-handedly convinced me that a shift dress could be a flattering pattern. Your figure is much like mine. I'm adding your blog to my RSS feeder now. Lovely work!

    1. Thanks! I really appreciate it. I know what you mean about worrying if the pattern would be flattering- I pretty much knew from the start that I needed to add waist darts for it to look ok on my shape. The ones from the "Licorice" dress work well, if you have the Colette Sewing Handbook.
