Thrifty Thursday Vol. 42: A Box Full of Heads

Hi everyone and welcome to this week's Thrifty Thursday post, where I share some of my thrift shop vintage finds for the week. This week's post is a little different, rather than thrifting, we were given a huge box full of these amazing head planters by Phillip's stepmom. She inherited them from a relative and isn't sure what to do with them all, so we'll be selling them for her in our antique spaces. There are a ton of them! Take a look:

They appear to be from roughly the same era (I'm thinking late 50s-mid 60s). Some still have their original labels on the bottom and some don't. Unfortunately they are all coated with a layer of dirty soot because the owner was a heavy smoker. I've got my work cut out for me in cleaning them!

I'm trying to decide if I want to keep one or not. Which one is your favorite?

I'll be linking up at Apron Thrift Girl, A Living Space, Sir Thrift A Lot, Joyful Treasure Hunting, and Young Heart. Head on over and check out all of the finds for this week!

If you see any items you like, they may be listed on Phillip's Ebay account, so take a looksie!

PS: As you read this, we'll be heading to Disneyland for a long-awaited vacation! I'm so excited!

  9. The nun stands out to me the most but I really like the "flower child" next to her, too. They all look great and you did a super job of photographing them.

  10. My mom collects these, aaah! I wish I would have found this box for her, it would have made her so happy. The last elegant lady in black, she's the last pictured in the final row, my mom had an exact one like that. It was one of the few things her mom left her and it shattered. I'm always looking out for more for her.

  11. please don't make me choose a favorite! they are all so beautiful. although, to use them as planters seems a little odd to me. greenery growing out of a head? meh. i think they would be amazing as brush or toiletry holders in a washroom.

    1. Yeah, I think so too. Some of them came with fake flowers stuck in the tops, which we quickly removed! I think they look much better empty than with flowers (especially plastic ones). I think I'm going to keep one for a makeup brush holder.

  12. Have a great vacation!
So I saw one of those today at the thrift shop and they wanted $35 for it. I thought they had lost their dang minds. What do you think?
    They are so cool!

    1. Thanks! We had tons of fun! And I think that $35 is a crazy price for a thrift store!

  13. How awesome and amazing! What a freaking neat collection! I think the lady to the right of the nun is pretty fab since it looks like she does double duty as a vase/planter and lipstick holder. Adorable!

    1. Thanks! I think I might keep her, actually. She'd look so cute on a vanity table with lipsticks and maybe makeup brushes in the top!

  14. My fav is the lady with the blue gloves. She just seems to be itching for a G&T..question is, what flowers and plants would you put in these ladies?

    1. I'm not sure, actually. Some of them came with some awful fake flowers in the tops and in my opinion it wasn't a good look! Maybe just some simple greenery?

  15. Seasonal flowers look great in the head vases. Right now I've got loads of peonies and they make the bonnets looks lush. I love head vases, you were 'given' a great collection.

  16. Wow, how cool (but slightly creepy?) to see so many together! The title of your post cracked me up. :) I really love the one in the small black hat, but they're all great -- and sometimes rather valuable, aren't they?

  17. Thanks for linking up to Thrifty Thursday! I have been seeing so many of these head vases! I'm in search of the retro Barbie heads for my daughter's room. Great collection!
