DIY Halloween Skull Pillows + a Giveaway from Hart's Fabric!

I was recently contacted by Hart's Fabric to create a tutorial using some of their fabrics. I got into the spirit of the season and came up with this skull pillow set that's perfect for Halloween! I'm calling it the "Boy Meets Ghoul" pillow set- check out the tutorial at Hart's Fabric Blog and learn how to make your very own!

In addition, Hart's Fabric has generously offered a $100 gift certificate to their website for one lucky reader!

To enter, just visit Hart's Fabric and leave a comment on this post letting me know what your favorite fabric is for fall and what you'd make with it.

The giveaway will be open through October 15th, after which I will choose a comment at random.  I'll announce the winner shortly thereafter. Good luck!

  1. Melissa, those pillows are - pardon the pun - to die for! I love the Dia de los Muertos feel to them. I now know what I'm sewing up this weekend. Thanks for the wonderful tutorial!

As for my favorite fall fabric, it's hard to pass up all those gorgeous flannels at Harts. One of the plaids would be just the thing for a cozy shirt dress!

  2. Cute pillows, and yay for a giveaway! I especially love richly colored wools for fall, and I just got the Pavot jacket pattern from Deer & Doe that's just begging for a pretty wool. :)

  3. I love the Ella Moss rayon prints. I live in Texas so fall farbics that are lightweight but can easily be layered up are the most versatile to me!

  4. Those pillows are amazing! I love the 3D embellishment too. I would love to get Tula Pink Nightshade Apothecary Fabric Vapor. It would make a great dress or even a skirt and matching bolero set.l

    Good luck to everyone!

  5. Ooh so many hard choices! I'd have to go with the chocolate pinstripe and some of that organic cotton knit in cranberry! I might get some knit with a bit of spandex too so I could make some nice neutral leggings for fall.
    Thanks for a wonderful giveaway.

    1. Almost forgot about the giveaway!!! This fall I'm in love with sweater knits and am looking forward to making some cardigans an pullover sweaters with some. I see that Harts has some! My dad's side of the family is from Santa Cruz and my grandma still lives there, so we go there often. I don't know why I haven't been to Hart 's yet!!! I need to rectify that SOON!

  15. Although everyone is apparently still in the Halloween mood, I am in love with the Lizzy House Outfoxed Orange Forest Leaves Cotton Fabric. I love its autumn colours, especially 'cause of me being a nature lover, I really want to put nature elements into sewing.

  18. Oh the cutes, I cannot stand it :D Want those pillows, they'd be right on time for my birthday. A favorite fall fabric, hm, I'm really into solids right now. I'd love black, orange, yellow, and white for curtain/pillow making. This house seriously needs some.

  19. I LOVE your pillows! I hope my schedule isn't too crazy so I can actually make them this year :)
Holy cow, what a hard decision on the fabric choice lol. I've fallen in love with the vintage dress from the new Craftsy class and I think it would be super cute made up in the Circa Lauren Floral Cotton in Blue, but I'm also totally loving the cutesyness of the Japanese Import Camera Cotton in Blue, but now that I'm looking I'm liking the Sashiko Cotton in Indigo. lol This would be so hard to choose! But man would I love to accept the challenge :)

  24. Those pillows are really cool - sweet, but not twee! And yay for a giveaway. I would have a really hard time choosing - I like the Robert Kaufman chambrays and railroad denim, or maybe a dress out of the plum ponte, or even some cozy pj pants made out of the flannel with the little elephants.

Since Miami fall is 86 degrees most days, I'd select something light and layer able like this Ella Moss rayon and would probably use one of my vintage separates patterns to make a blouse. http://www.hartsfabric.com/ella-moss-floral-rayon-taupe-72282.html
