Thrifty Thursday Vol. 69: a Dog, a Cat, and Some Dresses Too!

Hi everyone and welcome to this week's edition of Thrifty Thursday, where I share my weekly thrift store/swap meet/estate sale finds.

You may have noticed that it has been a couple of weeks since I've posted a Thrifty Thursday post. There were a couple of weeks when we decided to skip the estate sales altogether and the thrift shops yielded very little. I've decided to stop worrying about trying to post  a Thrifty Thursday every single week and just do it when I have enough good finds to share, which takes the pressure off during the lean thrifting weeks. But happily this last week has been fruitful as far as vintage is concerned!

This weenie dog is one of my favorite finds from the last couple of weeks. It was for sale at one of our local thrift shops, but they were asking $20 and I couldn't bring myself to buy it for that price. So Phillip went and bought it for me! He's too nice to me.

This little peanut server and cards were more thrift finds. I love the graphics on the card! Phillip has it for sale on Ebay and the server is in our antique space.

Do you ever have on of those serendipitous moments when you somehow find exactly what you're looking for? We have been on the hunt for a cool vintage ice crusher since Phillip's brother mentioned he wanted one. We saw a few at antique shops, but all of them seemed kind or overpriced or a bit too rusty inside. We almost bought one the other day, but then decided against it, and then found this one in a thrift store for much less and in better shape! It's nearly prefect on the inside too. Phillip also found these vintage Trader Vic's mugs (which are really collectible) for $2!

How cool are these vintage bathroom scales? They came from the same thrift shop as the ice crusher. They look great in the antique space alongside our bright pink 1960s hamper!

I was convinced to check out the swap meet again last Sunday, and I'm glad I went because we found this cool Siamese cat TV lamp. The holes in the eyes light up when you turn it on and it looks really cool! I may have to keep this one!

We had a bit of luck at the estate sales too. I found these vintage dresses for just a few dollars apiece (Sorry for the crazy wrinkles, I didn't have time to iron them). I was hoping on might fit me, but alas, they're all too small! I might list them on Ebay or Etsy, but if any of you vintage lovers are interested in buying any, let me know and I can measure them for you.

I also found this, which I think was going to be a skirt. I love the cool mid--century leaf print! I may finish making it into a skirt for myself or maybe make it the bottom half of a dress. What do you suggest?

I've also been trying to pick up cute odds and ends that we can use for decor in our wedding. We finally decided on a date: June 27th of next year! I found this cute little gold and white pedestal thing for a couple bucks, a pretty aqua vase and a little pink glass dish for like 90 cents. I'm squirreling them away in a closet until next year.

This apron was another estate sale find. I really love the fabric. One day, when I learn how to design fabric prints, I think it would be fun to re-create it in several other color schemes.

These Couroc of California plates were our latest find. We've found a few pieces here and there but never in these patterns. I especially like the hot air balloon.

We'll that concludes this week's Thrifty Thursday. I'll be linking up at A Living Space, Sir Thrift A Lot, and Joyful Treasure Hunting, so head on over and check out everyone's treasures! By the way, does anyone have suggestions for some other fun thrifty link ups?

  2. Great finds! What size are the dresses? I'm interested in the black one in particular.
I think that leaf pattern skirt should be made up as a skirt rather than dress. It'd be so easy to top it with different blouses/tops.
